Reflections of Our Past..................

It has been said that anyone who has ever entered the doors of New Covenant Baptist Church, has surely felt the love and the warmth of its members.  This love began in as a Mission of Austintown Baptist Church in June of 1975, as Calvary Baptist Chapel.  Dick and Vesta Lowe came from Austintown Baptist Church to help with the mission work.

Bill Bragdon along with his wife Diane was the first to serve as Pastor in July 1976.

The first Sunday service was held June 1, 1975.  In the Spring of 1978, we had 24 members with an average of 29 in attendance. Discussions were ongoing as to whether to borrow money from the Home Mission Board to purchase land or the grange hall.  We settled on the grange hall which is our present building today.  We received a grant from the Oldham Little Church Foundation to remodel our building in 1980.

In December 1980 we opted to continue with Sunday night services.   In May of 1985 we changed our name to New Covenant Baptist Chapel. We voted on and accepted our constitution on February 11, 1987, and on May 10, 1987 we Constituted into New Covenant Baptist Church.    Among the charter members of New Covenant Baptist Church, three members still remain active today, Evelyn Sheldon, and Allan & Patty Sheldon.

Over the years, several Pastors have followed in the loving tradition established by Calvary Baptist Chapel until today at New Covenant Baptist Church.

Their tenures were as follows:

Bro. Dick Lowe, served June 1975 - July 1976

Pastor Bill Bragdon, served July 1976 - October 1980

Pastor Tom Barker, served March 1981 - November 1982

Pastor Bill Combs, served April 1983 - May 1984

Pastor Harold Johnson, served May 1985 - May 1986

Pastor Clyde Sears, served October 1986 - January 1990

Pastor George Webb, served April 1991 - May 1996

Pastor W. C. "Skip" Meckley, began serving November 1996 - Present

All of the Pastors through the years have brought God's Word to New Covenant Baptist Church and have given freely of themselves to God's service.  And so what began over 30 years ago, still lives on today, in the hearts of all members past, present and into the future.

May the love of New Covenant Baptist Church continue for many years to come through our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
